The Yakima river is in one of its most important stages of the year with lots of insect activity on and under the surface.
The October Caddis is in full swing and the should be fished in the Pupal and adult stages.
Baetis, Midge, Yellow Mays and Mahogany Duns should also be present this time of year.
Beetles, Ants and Hoppers can also be present during the middle part of sunny days.

The Yakima is fishing very well and the fish are hungry. The best
patterns to use would be the Black Ant and Hopper patterns fished next
to the shore along over hangs and under cuts.
The caddis are aslo very prevalent this time of year on the Yakima and
good patterns to have on hand to imitate these guys are the Elk Hair
Caddis in Olive, Tan and Brown.
Alternativer patterns that could be very good would include the BH
Stone Fly Nymph with rubber legs in size 6-10 in a golden tan color or
black.
Another good pattern to have on hand is the soft hackle in a variety of
sizes from 10-16 and in Olive, Orange, Hares Ear and Peacock colors.

Possible other patterns for the Yakima include the BH Pheasant Tail
Nymph fished with a strike indicator in the back eddies and along
current seams.

THIS IS A GOOD TIME OF THE YEAR TO BE USING SALMON
FLY AND GOLDEN STONE FLY PATTERNS ON THE YAKIMA RIVER AS THE INSECTS
ARE FOUND ALONG THE BANKS IN THE WATER AND IN VEGETATION BEGINNING TO
HATCH. THESE HATCHES ARE USUALLY FOUND IN THE LATE AFTERNOONS ON WARM
PARTLY OVER CAST DAYS. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO CATCH ONE OF THESE HATCHES
RIGHT YOU WILL NOT FORGET IT BECAUSE THES FISH WILL GO BALLISTIC
FEEDING WITH COMPLETE ABANDON.
SOME OF THE BETTER PATTERNS FOR THESE TROUT ARE THE BH STONE FLY NYMPH, MATTS FUR , KAUFFMANS STONE FLY NYMPH
IMPROVED SOFA PILLOWS, ORANGE AND YELLOW STIMULATORS , FOAM BULLET HEAD SALMON FLIES AND OTHERS.
