The Sandy River

The winter run steelies are winding down and summer runs are just now entering the river along with a few spring chinook.

The river
level is currently at 10.2 feet and should be producing good numbers of
summer steelies at this time along with springers.
Good
patterns to use here include the Green Butt Skunk, Hoh Bo Spey, River
Rat Squid, BH Buggers, BH Stones, Steves String Leeches, Bunny Leeches,
Flesh Flies, BH Lifters, Intruders and Freight Trains,
Intruders, Pick Yer Pockets and other large over sized spey
patterns.
Plan on fishing the heads of pools and the main parts to runs with broken structure for the fish to hold hehind.

Fly fishing
for winter steelies has been fair to good depending on who you talk
tosince the rain has began. The rain should drive more fish into this
system along with summer runs any time now.
Plan on a good
April and May steelhead season here due to the late returning stock of
steelies. Springers will also be entering very soon.

The fly anglers on the Sandy river have been doing above average.
The area below
Oxbow Park has been good during the nice weather. The rain occurring
now will only drive more fish into the river.
